The brief

The challenge is to replace a 1950’s bungalow with an architectural home with serious design flare. Once finished, the new property will feature polished concrete floors, cast concrete walls, zinc, slate, rusty-steel balustrades and privacy screens. As with one of our projects in East Preston, the build is on the seafront so careful design was needed to cope with the corrosive environment.

The work

The site is very tight so careful traffic management is key. All suppliers will have to split their loads on smaller vehicles to gain access. All our other sites have a fixed office and welfare facility, but for this project we have had to source one half the size to fit within the curtilage of the building. The construction consists of a steel frame so we can build the property quickly, as well as provide large open areas internally and glass sections around the building.

The result

The Architect has done a fantastic job of creating a building with real presence. The construction is due to start in August ’16, with a 7-month build scheduled.
