Our brief was to design and build a magnificent country home. We used the services of Hayden Jones at Saville Jones Architects to design a Georgian inspired new build property to sit on the original footprint of the previous house. Design and construction methods used in commercial building were used to keep to a tight 12 month programme despite the poor ground conditions.
A specialist pile contactor was brought in to design and construct a piled foundation with structural concrete ground floor. This formed the base for a steel frame more commonly used in commercial construction. This allowed us to fit the floors and roof well before the walls were built. To aid speed of construction, locally produced flint blocks were used and the windows had to be manufactured and delivered before the openings even existed!
The Handsome property sits well-proportioned on the ground where the previous house once sat, lining up perfectly with the original pergola and walled garden. Classic architecture has been complemented with new build construction to give the homeowner the space and technology required for 21st century living.
